UNDERGROUND SOuL: ALBUM MANIFESTO

I made this album as a precursor to my full length studio album currently entitled ‘Waiting for Sunrise’ which I would like to record and release sometime next year. I wanted to put together this project(Underground SOuL) to raise funds and/or awareness for my next project.
2 Years ago I had a VERY comfortable deal on the table with an Indy label that I had to walk away from because I felt my musical integrity was being compromised. Walking away from it all and starting from scratch was not an easy thing to do. In addition to other obstacles, I had 2 hard drives crash and take most of my lifes work..(sometimes I feel my life is one drawn out Will Ferrell comedy)So its been a bit frustrating to say the least but also an incredible life experience. Im extremely proud of this project because its moments of my life committed to permanent memory, pure and untainted by industry execs, for the world to hear, vibe and connect to.
As an artist in this day and age we are seldomly given the credit we deserve or have earned. Art is taken for granted and has been cheapened by technology’s attempt to make things easier and faster. Essentially what has occurred is an influx of mediocrity and a scarcity of originality and greatness. Think about it…when was the last time you heard something as classic as Marvin Gaye, Bill withers, CCR, Queen etc??
Its not only that everybody and there grandma’s can make music now but also the speed at which its made, promoted,consumed and forgotten that has affected the quality of music or art in general….How can you expect to find another Prince,MJ, Joni Mitchell or Bob Dylan when most peoples attention span lasts about as long as a super bowl commercial! What happened to building LEGENDARY CAREERS OUT OF INCREDIBLE ARTISTS that have a catalog of TIMELESS CLASSICS??
You dont see it because PEOPLE ARE NOT SUPPORTING MUSIC ANYMORE. Artists are being bred to pump out their one or 2 hits and then its on to the next fool in trendy gear selling you the latest iPhone or SUV. Radio stations are oversaturated with the same 10 aritst’s on repeat all day until finally there’s nothing else to do but embrace that song that bugged the shit out of you at first but now has kind of grown on you and isn’t as bad as you thought it was. Our children are growing up confusing MEDIOCRITY for GREATNESS and the only people to blame are YOU AND ME….the only way to change this is by DEMANDING MORE…SUPPORTING REAL MUSIC AND TURNING OFF THE BULLSHIT!!
So with that mentality I made this album. I made something I wanna listen to NO MATTER WHAT THE TREND IS and with YOUR SUPPORT, I and other artists like me, will be able to continue to bring you beautiful music…
We are in a confusing time full of uncertainties and conflicting extremities in this world and if history has shown us anything, its that out of chaos the most inspired and inspiring music(art) is born and also NEEDED MOST….POLITICS DOESN’T CHANGE THE WORLD….MUSIC DOES!! RESPECT IT.
Be a part of something BIGGER than the next NIKE or GMC ADD CAMPAIGN,the NEXT DANCE CRAZE or TRENDY PUPPET RAPPER/SINGER that no one will remember 5 years from now… SUPPORT REAL MUSIC,

WOW….Just woke up and found out Baatin, a member of Slum Village, has passed on…I got to meet Slum Village when they were in my city after a show…some of the coolest cats I’ve ever met and this was when they were completely unknown like 10/11 yrs ago…Rest In Paradise Brother Baatin! say peace to Dilla for me……
